A Sumateran tiger died in a chicken cage. A Sumateran tiger (Panthera tigris sumatrae) was found dead in a chicken cage belongs to M Rajab (45), a resident of Desa Silolo Subdistrict Pasie Raja, Kabupaten Aceh Selatan.
"The dead female tiger was found dead in a chicken cage at about 08.00 WIB(West Indonesian Time Zone). Local residents buried the particular endangered animal," said Mr. Pasie Raja H Rustam, the Subdsitrict Head of Tapak Tuan, Monday (16/11). That endangered animal was wrapped in a white cloth before it was buried. The burial itself was witnessed by Kepala Konservasi Sumber Daya Alam (KSDA) or Chief of The Natural Resources Conservation, Mr. Safwan, officers from Taman Nasional Gunung Leuser (TNGL) or Mount Leuser National Park and Chief of the Sector Police of Pasie Raja Aceh Selatan District.
The tiger of which body length is 99 cm with 62 cm height and 52 cm length of tail was assumed to enter the chicken cage located at the back of M Rajab’s house whose occupation is a farmer at about 8 p.m. This endangered animal was assumed to be death out of suffocation from being strangled by a rope hung on the particular cage.
"The particular young tiger was buried in M Rajab’s front yard to prevent any unwelcome possibilities," he said. The Chief of KSDA Aceh Selatan, Mr. Safwan said the particular tiger was death from suffocation. He has already reported the accident to the BKSDA or The Natural Resources Conservation Institution of Nanggroe Aceh Darussalam Province.
"We have already explained the accident to the province’s BKSDA and i t is estimated that there is still another tiger is at large in Desa Silolo suburb.," he said. It has been reported that the tiger assaults in this nutmeg yielding area has been increased within these past two months. A lot of cattles have been killed bu the king of the jungle. As a matter of fact, there are also several other areas such as Jambo Apha, the Tapak Tuan Subdistrict and Desa Jambo Papeun, at Meukek Subdistrict - apart from Desa Silolo at Pasie Raja SubDistrict - which also experience the same problem where the tigers are at large in their areas. Mr. Sasmin (44), the Villagers Head of Desa Jamboe Papeun said that tigers have already killed five goats belongs to Tgk Syahabuddin, Tgk Anshari, and M Nasir Nas, along with 39 chickens and ducks belongs to other residents.
"Residents saw the tiger in a cassava field in Dusun Kuta Batee, only one kilometer away from the residents settlement. The fact is that residents are truly afraid as well as worried to do the planting, but the daily routines must be done to meet their daily needs." said Sasmin.
